# Player default clearcoat preview · r275

A same-camera Chrome comparison was captured on packaged L4RD at the normal
city-light gain. In the prior fallback, `playerPaintFinishMode("default")`
selected shader mode 2, whose viewer-side clearcoat strength is 0.38. Mode 1
uses strength 1.0 and the existing city and local cubemap reflection path.

The uncustomized player paint now starts in the existing `gloss` preview mode.
The L4RD capture shows stronger roof, quarter-panel, and rear-window reflections,
which makes the body shape easier to read. The reflected sky and raised road
also create broad warm bands over the paint; this is still a WebGL fallback,
not a recovered retail clearcoat setting. A player-selected finish remains
stored per car and is preserved.

- The viewer's gloss and glass shader paths are in `webgl-city/viewer.js`.
